|
Mistake#1. We send more applications for the same position.
Are you really in need of the job?
You may. But this will not help. In fact, you are taking a big risk with yourself.
Yes, you can do it after a reasonable interval if you think your profile is really suitable for that post.
|
Mistake#2. Our Email address is funny.
Very very important. What is your Email address?
Make sure, you give the nice email address. Try to use professional looking email address.
What about the Email ID? Check your own Email ID.
Most of us use Email ID created during our school/college days. Those were really days of fun. Let's be little serious now.
- sweetpuja@yahoo.com
(Not, it doesn’t look good when applying for jobs).
- puja1234@yahoo.com (It’s ok, but I would try to avoid using such id’s too).
- shahpuja.mba@yahoo.com
(It looks perfect ).
- Just be serious. You are now in real life. Keep your college-time ID for friends.
|
Mistake#3. We don't mention Date of birth and Sex.
Do mention them. Please also mention marital status.
|
Mistake#4. We give wrong names to our CV - Resume files.
- cv.doc, cv12.doc, resume.doc
AVOID SUCH NAMES.
- pujashah_2009.doc (It's OK)
- cv_pujashah_mba2009.doc
(It looks perfect)
|
Mistake#5. We send outdated matter (mostly in ignorance).
- You should give a look everytime you send your CV for such matters.
- Bouncing Email address. We receive many of such.
- None-responding or changed Phone / Mobile numbers.
- Confusing Permanent Address.
- Confusing work status.
- Show clearly your latest working status.
|
Mistake#6. We leave spelling & grammer mistakes.
- Alwasy run spell-check after you edit your CV / Resume.
- In the era of MS Word and Online spell-checking features, such carelessness can't be forgiven.
|
Mistake#12. We don't share good information with friends.
- If everybody shares nothing, life will be so boring and so as internet.
- Share new information you get. Bigger the circle, more the opportunities.
|
| Good news: If you are applying for job through MyCityJobs, you don't need to worry about following mistakes. |
|
Mistake#7. We don't mention Post - Job Position applied for in subject of our Email.
It's as necessary as writing it on Envelope when we are sending a hard copy.
|
Mistake#8. We don't use cover-letter as message.
At least a paragraph should be there in message. Example :
(You can copy the message. Please change details in red italics)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am, Ms. Puja Rasiklal Shah, MBA ( 67% at first attempt, from VNSGU) having work experience of 2 years as Assistant Manager, would like to apply for the suitable position at your firm/company.
My detailed resume/ Curriculum Vitae is attached herewith for your kind consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Shah Puja R.

Mistake#9. We forget to attach CV - Resume.
Gmail will alert you. But it's better you re-check before clicking the 'send' button.
|
Mistake#10. We send email to many employers together.
- If you want to save time, send them as BCC recipient. Though, I'd suggest you to send only one at a time.
|
Mistake#11. We do some over-enthusiastic tricks (mostly in ignorance).
- Examples:-
- Auto responders.
- Avoid them. JUST AVOID THEM. You can only afford it while being in very senior position.
- Auto-invitation.
- Facebook, Netlog or Boxbe or what not.
- BY DOING THIS, YOU ARE CLOSING THE DOORS YOURSELF FOR NEXT COMMUNICATION.
- Hobbies.
- Not required to mention at all.
- Atleast don’t mention such hobbies as ‘Chating with friends, internet surfing’. ( Yes. It’s true. We get many such CVs).
|
Tips:
- Revise your Resume / CV regularly.
- “Objective” is outdated. You can remove it.
- Put your LIVE Projects as reference.
Sorry, if I have spoiled your mood. But, I will be glad if you correct yourself and get a better job soon. If you have got the message, please share this with your friends.
